750 Hz on a QD-OLED panel: Samsung is not done surprising us

750 Hz. Take the time to reread the number. We are talking about a screen capable of displaying 750 images per second, while the vast majority of gamers still operate at 144 Hz — and many already find that more than sufficient.

The information just came out this week and it is enough to raise an eyebrow: Samsung Display would be preparing a 24.5-inch QD-OLED panel at 1920×1080 capable of reaching 750 Hz . Not a prototype for the showroom, not a technological demo that we will never see again. A real product, aimed for 2027.

And the most interesting thing in this story is not really the frequency. It's the size.

What the leak says exactly

The information circulates from the Weibo account Lonely City Hardware , later relayed by Guru3D and Notebookcheck. The leaker has a correct history on Samsung panels, which does not mean that everything is set in stone — we remain on rumors, with the necessary caution.

  • Diagonal — 24.5 inches, never seen before at Samsung in QD-OLED
  • Resolution — 1920×1080, that is Full HD assumed
  • Frequency — 750 Hz natively
  • Availability — current 2027, probably not before the second semester

So far, Samsung Display was never went below 27 inches on QD-OLED. The current catalog includes 27, 31.5, 34, and 49 inches. Going down to 24.5" is a change of strategy, not just a simple variation.

A 24.5 inch panel in 1080p is exactly the format that competitive esports has been demanding for ten years.

Why 24 inches, when everyone is moving towards large format

There is a logic behind this choice, and it has nothing to do with visual comfort.

Go take a look in any LAN or watch a CS2 final: pros play on 24 inches. Not because they can't afford better, but because a smaller screen allows them to keep the entire playing surface in the central field of vision, without moving their head. Less eye movement, less fatigue over five hours of competition.

Add to that that 1080p is much easier to power. To hope to exploit 750 Hz, you need to output 750 frames per second — and there, the definition becomes the crux of the matter. At 1440p, you might as well forget it right away on the majority of titles.

Samsung does not therefore target Mr. Everybody with this panel. The audience is the competitive player who is willing to sacrifice definition and size for smoother performance.

Do we really see the difference between 500 and 750 Hz?

Legitimate question, and the honest answer is: less and less.

Blur Busters, which has been working on the subject for years, summarizes the problem well. The sensitivity of the eye to frequency deviations fall very quickly as one climbs. To perceive a clear improvement, geometric jumps are needed, on the order of double or quadruple. In other words: between 60 and 120 Hz, the impact is immediate. Between 120 and 240, it is still quite noticeable. Between 500 and 750 Hz, we are talking about a gain of 50% that plays out on micro-details.

Specifically, what improves at these frequencies is mainly the reduction of motion blur and the effect of phantom array — these ghost trails that one perceives when quickly sweeping the mouse. A trained player will feel it. A casual player, very likely not.

And then we must be clear about one point: this race for Hz is also a marketing argument. 750, it can be put on a box. It can be compared. It sells.

What machine is needed to power 750 Hz?

This is where the dream hits the wall of reality.

Displaying 750 Hz is useless if the graphics card can't keep up. And getting 750 stable fps, even at 1080p, is not something everyone can achieve. On CS2 , which remains one of the best-optimized games on the market, you already need a very solid setup to exceed 600 fps on low settings. On Valorant, it's more accessible. On just about anything else, forget it.

Another detail that is often forgotten: the processor becomes the limiting factor long before the GPU in these frequency areas. In competitive 1080p, it is the CPU that caps, not the graphics card. A good X3D will do more for your framerate than a high-end GPU.

  • The CPU first — in 1080p at very high framerate, it's him who decides
  • The settings to the minimum — the pros play in low, it's not a coincidence
  • The cable — it will require DisplayPort 2.1 to handle the bandwidth
  • The game — only light esports titles will reach these values

In short, buying this panel to play Cyberpunk in ray tracing would make no sense. It's a specialized tool.

What Samsung Display is preparing behind

This 750 Hz panel does not come out of nowhere. It is part of a broader roadmap that leaked earlier this year.

For 2026 , Samsung remains with its second and third generation emissive materials. The catalog continues with 27 inches in QHD and UHD, 31.5 inches, 34 and 49. The real evolutions are elsewhere: transition to a pixel structure RGB Stripe at 110 PPI, which finally resolves the text sharpness issues attributed to QD-OLED, upgrade to 4K at 240 Hz, and new AR3.0 surface treatment.

For 2027 , the leap is more pronounced: fourth generation materials, new internal structure called QOE, and especially the arrival of two unprecedented formats — the 24 inches and the 39 inches . Our famous 750 Hz slab fits perfectly in this box.

And it doesn't stop there. A 1000 Hz panel developed with the help of AMD is already being mentioned as the logical next step. We'll see if someone manages to power it.

How much is it going to cost, and do we have to wait?

No price has leaked, but we can reason by analogy.

The first 27-inch QD-OLED screens at 500 Hz were launched around €900 to €1,100. A smaller panel costs less to produce, but the technological novelty and niche positioning go in the opposite direction. Rely on a range of 700 to 1,000 € at launch seems reasonable, with the usual discount of the first six months.

Now, do we have to wait until 2027 for that? Frankly, no. If you are playing competitively today and your screen is outdated, a good 240 or 360 Hz will give you 95% of the benefit for a fraction of the price. The jump to 750 Hz is a refinement, not a revolution.

On the other hand, the arrival of the 24-inch QD-OLED is really good news in the long term. It will pull the entire range down in terms of price and make OLED accessible to budgets that were previously excluded. This may be the real news of the week.
